Spanish Footsteps practices responsible tourism.

What is responsible tourism?

It is a type of tourism which is practised by holiday makers who make responsible choices when selecting their holidays, as well as tour operators acting in a responsible manner when creating the holidays they promote. These choices reflect responsible attitudes towards the environment, local economy and the community of the holiday destination.

How can I practice responsible tourism?

Respect local traditions, customs and religions. Purchase local products, arts and crafts. Eat local rather than imported foods.  Stay in locally owned accommodation. Dispose of rubbish carefully, recycle and minimize the use of plastic bags when making purchases. Make tourism a positive experience for the local community.

How does Spanish Footsteps practice responsible tourism?

Our journeys are located in the Soria Province, a rural part of Spain where depopulation has been an issue since the 1960’s. With the loss of village life can come the loss of traditions, cultures and ways of seeing the world.

Our journeys benefit the local community as well as respecting their culture and the environment. We are helping to bring employment and recognition as a rural destination to this area.

The accommodation and restaurant options we use are local, family-run businesses, when ever possible. We provide information on local artisans so you can purchase genuine locally produced wares as reminders of your journey.

Many of the restaurants we use feature local produce.  Where picnic lunches are provided by us we aim to source locally and are delighted to share our knowledge with you.  For self guided journeys, we  provide details of local producers.

Our aim is for you to finish your journey with Spanish Footsteps, with a greater understanding of the Soria province.  We do this by providing information on Sorias history, environment, traditions, culture, gastronomy and wine.

We include Links to numerous online booking websites for ferry, train and bus services as alternative travel.  We also  provide a Link on how you can offset carbon emissions.
